A ULX associated with a cloud collision in M 99
The Sc galaxy M99 in the Virgo cluster has been strongly affected by tidal interactions and recent close encounters, responsible for an asymmetric spiral pattern and a high star formation rate. Our XMM-Newton study shows that the inner disk is dominated by hot plasma at kT ≈ 0.30 keV, with a total X-ray luminosity ≈ 10 erg s in the 0.3–12 keV band. At the outskirts of the galaxy, away from the ...
متن کاملThe molecular cloud core M 17-North: New ISOCAM observations
We present spectro-imaging data of the molecular cloud core M17-North. The data have been obtained with the ISOCAM camera on board of the Infrared Space Observatory (ISO) using the circular variable filters (CVF). The spectra have a spectral resolution of about 40. They are dominated by PAH emission bands. A band at 16.6 μm is detected which is ascribed to the family of the PAH bands. Further, ...
متن کاملPoint Cloud Collision Detection
In the past few years, many efficient rendering and surface reconstruction algorithms for point clouds have been developed. However, collision detection of point clouds has not been considered until now, although this is a prerequisite to use them for interactive or animated 3D graphics. We present a novel approach for time-critical collision detection of point clouds. Based solely on the point...
متن کاملThe molecular cloud core M 17 - North : ISO spectroscopy and IR / mm continuum mapping ?
We present the first complete infrared spectrum of a molecular cloud core covering the wavelength region from 2.4 up to 200 μm together with a map at 1.3 mm wavelength and near-infrared (NIR) images. The core is located in the northern part of M 17 and shows strong evidence for on-going star formation. These data are the first step towards a complete characterization of M 17-North. The spectrum...
متن کاملCollision Efficiency of Nearly Equal Cloud Drops
Recomputation of the collision efficiency of nearly equal water drops falling in air gave values which increase as the size ratio approaches uiiity for radii of the bigger drop larger than 6 3 p, and decreased as though tending toward zero for smaller radii. For the bigger radii the new computcd values are consistent with experimental results, but for radii around 40 ,U they are not.
